The Magic of Bisbee

Yes, I have done my share of prospecting. I've dry panned for gold around Ruby, used flotation dredges in Lynx Creek , and even managed some nugget shooting in Quartzsite. But, the one place I have never prospected is the Bisbee area of southeastern Arizona.

I really don't know why, except that I always ended up there on a Harley or in a car visiting the old mining town and finding myself enjoying stepping back into time and history. Bisbee is on the same level as some of the great old mining towns of Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico and a heck of a lot closer to visit.

The Bisbee Blue turquoise found in the area is truly beautiful and there are many shops in town that sell jewelry with Bisbee Blue featured, and you can buy samples of most minerals found in the area. It's a wonderful place to shop till you drop, or just relax with a great meal and beverage. Artists and craftspeople who live in Bisbee offer an amazing array of items unique to the area. There are also plenty of quaint B&Bs and motels if you want to spend the night and you will want to spend the night, because one day doesn't cut it. You can't see everything in just one day. Please don't miss the underground mine tour on an old ore train it's fantastic!

Make sure you bring a camera. You are going to want to take pictures because the scenery is awesome, and while you're traveling to Bisbee, you might as well stop in Tombstone, "The town too tough to die!" It's right on the way and also a great place to visit.

I'm sure you must be thinking I work for Arizona tourism interests, but you would be wrong. I was born in Arizona and just flat love the place. I could write about Arizona's wonders full time, but I need to get back to my real job writing murder mysteries that will scare your pants off!

I Want a Bumper Car!

Can you imagine just how wonderful our driving experience would be if we all drove these fantastic bumper cars? We would be smiling, laughing and enjoying our ride. When was the last time you saw a motorist smiling as they passed by? All I see are frowns from the clowns. My parents used to say people still smiled while driving in the 1940s, but that started to change in the 1950s.

In any case, I'm smiling every time I drive just to piss off the non-smiling grumpazoides. I sure do get strange glares from people. If they think I am totally crazy, they be right! Like the song says, You have to be crazy to keep from going insane.

Summer in Quartzsite

After transplanting four trees on our lot in Quartzsite, I have become a monthly tree sitter in one of the hottest summer spots in America. I'm not complaining, the desert is beautiful in the summer. The mornings are warm and quiet with a breeze that feels good as I sip my coffee while sitting outside.

I also volunteered to water our neighbors trees while they are freezing their butts of in Idaho. I called them to pass on the good news that the beehive that moved into their outside barbecue the minute they left for the season are alive and well. It was during this call at 10:00 AM that they informed me that it was 45 degrees and cloudy at their summer home. Better them than me....I wonder if the bees are Africanized? Unfortunately, they have to be exterminated and none to soon for me.

As soon as it's light out, I am packing up and getting the flock out of here!

I must apologize for this rather mundane blog, but what can I say? It's my blog and I'll be mundane if I want to.
