I Write The Line

(Sing to "I Walk The Line," by Johnny Cash)

I keep a close watch on this pen of mine
I keep my mind wide open all the time
My laptop is the tie that binds
Because it’s mine, I walk the line

It seems like my book is never through
Yes, I’ll admit not a word of it is true
A fiction writer writing just for you
Because you’re mine, I walk the line

I’ve worked all night and now it’s getting light
I keep on writing both day and night
I must sell books now since the money’s tight
Because it’s mine, I walk the line

Writing has a way to keep me on its side
I’m hooked for sure and that I cannot hide
I would be lost if my computer ever died
Because of you, I walk the line

I keep a close watch on this pen of mine
I keep my mind wide open all the time
My laptop is the tie that binds
Because it’s mine, I walk the line
Because it’s mine, I walk the line

Willie continued

All I can say is WOW! Willie Nelson proved once again why he is an American icon and my personal hero. Any man at his age (78) who can play the guitar with such authority and sing for an hour and a half with force and conviction has my vote.

He not only paid homage to his own composing genius, but also to Hank William, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and others. He (Willie) brings music alive with natural ability and honesty. I wanted to hear Willie sing all the songs that had brought him fame, and brother, he delivered! It was like the old times when Willie, Waylon, Kris, and Johnny would bring down the house in concerts all over America. Willie rocked our universe Friday night at the Stargazer Pavilion in Camp Verde, Arizona, with song after song, nonstop.

Who would have thought that Willie would ever come to our small community? Thank you, Cliff Castle Casino, for providing the venue for such a fantastic night under the moon and stars; it was a magical moment in time and my wife and I will never forget this concert!

Although Willie will never know, I want to thank him personally for singing “Angel Flying To Close To The Ground.” It is my wife’s favorite, and I could swear he was looking right at her when he sang it. It brought tears to my eyes. She is such a Willie fan and has seen many of his concerts, but never one so up close and personal. The light in her eyes matched the stars shining brightly overhead. There was no doubt the whole crowd felt the same way. The hooting and hollering could be heard for miles around.

Thank you, Willie, for singing and playing your heart out…we love you!

    Write on,

Willie

I swore after the last concert in Prescott Valley, Arizona, to see Willie Nelson that I would never go again. Willie sucked, Merle Haggard sucked, while Ray Price went on and on and on and on singing my parents music. What happened to Willie the "outlaw" and his fabulous shit kicking music I loved in the ‘70s and ‘80s I wondered as sleep tried to take me over while slumping in my chair at the Toyota Pavilion suppressing large yawns?

This time is supposed to be different. First of all he is now “Willie and Family,” and his son is playing the gig with the old man. This alone should be interesting. Second, my wife got VIP seats in the first two rows at the Cliff Castle Casino outdoor Pavilion in Camp Verde. The only time I remember being a VIP was during an income tax audit. For those of you who don’t know where Camp Verde is, don’t worry – no one else knows either.

The concert is tonight and it coincides with the Thunder Valley Rally, a big motorcycle rally being held in the area this weekend. It will be fun riding the bike to the concert and then to the rally in Old Town Cottonwood tomorrow, which should also be interesting because the town is about a city block long with not much parking and it’s the first time the rally will be held there. It used to be at the casino every year, but for some reason the tribe rejected us this year. I am going to protest by not playing my normal $40 dollars at the slots. I plan to only lose $20 this year.

    To be continued….

"Whether or not you are a country music fan, these are truly the words of a deep thinker, and a highly intelligent person. So simple, yet so profound! Read the words of wisdom from that famous philosopher Willie Nelson, iconic country and western singer, on his 75th birthday below his esteemed portrait. Only a man with such wisdom and maturity could be so concise and succinct in phrasing his feelings at this turning point in his life."

    "I have outlived my pecker."

    The Penis Poem--by Willie Nelson
    My nookie days are over,
    My pilot light is out.
What used to be my sex appeal,
    Is now my water spout.
Time was when, on its own accord,
From my trousers it would spring.
But now I've got a full time job,
    To find the f***in' thing.
    It used to be embarrassing,
    The way it would behave.
    For every single morning,
It would stand and watch me shave.
    Now as old age approaches,
It sure gives me the blues.
To see it hang its little head,
And watch me tie my shoes!!

GERIATRIC DIRTY DANCING

If you will click the title of this blog you will see what most of us wish we could still do. I used to love country western dancing and the two-step was my favorite. Hell, there was a time when I could even disco with the best of them. OK, maybe not as well as John Travolta, but good none the less.

My, how times have changed. Remember when the dance halls didn’t even start really jumping until after 10 p.m. and to be there any earlier would mean you were drunk before the dancing started or a dork or both, and the dancing didn’t stop until the bouncers kicked everyone out?

I watched the Arizona Diamondbacks beat up on the Florida Marlins last night until after 8 p.m. and this morning I feel like I have a hangover! Wahoo, what a party animal I am now – pathetic, I know, but such is the way of life. God only knows what the young people dance to now-a-days, but I bet they don’t have as much fun as we did when live bands played real dance music and you could even hear the lyrics. I guess I will never know who dances to what; I can’t stay awake late enough to find out. Do people even dance anymore?

Come to think of it, I am a total day creature now. It’s like reverse vampirism; I live in the sunlight only to crawl back to my coffin at night. Crazy, I know, but it suits me and my wife. Let the youngsters have the night, you can’t see anything anyhow.

    I’m just saying,

I love Charlie Daniels Music

A friend told me that one time while fishing in east Texas, he ran out of worms right when the fishing was hot. As he stood there wondering what to do, a snake came by with a frog in his mouth. Thinking the frog would make good bait, my friend grabbed the critter behind the neck, removed the frog from the snakes mouth and threw it in the bait box. The trick now was how to release the viper without being bitten. My friend grabbed his bottle of Jack Daniels and poured a little down the snakes gullet. After releasing a rather befuddled and tipsy snake a fair distance from the fishing spot, he resumed fishing.

A little while later, the snake returned with two frogs in his mouth.

I had the same thing happen to me once, but, low and behold, the damn snake came back, bit me on the ankle and left with a my half bottle of Jack.

I don't know what it is, but every time I hear Charlie Daniel's music, I think of Jack Daniels!

    I'm just saying,
